Earliest Meeting: Friday 10th November 1699 Final Meeting: Friday 10th November 1699 The small village of Laleham, on the River Thames, is located some 17 miles west of London in the Borough of Spelthorne. It was historically part of Middlesex before being transferred to Surrey in 1965, and its closest town is Staines. It boasts a long history and was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book when known as Leleham. In the latter part of the 17th century it staged horse races on Laleham Common when the principal race was a £5 Plate restricted to Galloways not exceeding 13 hands. The race was over 3 miles, stretching over 3 heats, with each horse allocated 8 stone. The eventual winner was sold for 10 Guineas.
